J Supor & Son Trucking & Rigging Provides Catastrophic Recovery For Miracle On The Hudson Plane
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
As the Miracle on the Hudson incident approached its two-year anniversary in 2011, officials at J. Supor & Son Trucking & Rigging Co. reflected on being part of the aircraft recovery project that helped to lift the plane intact from the river and move it to safe storage.
Harrison, NJ – J. Supor & Son Trucking & Rigging Co., a nationwide leader in trucking, rigging and hauling, is about to celebrate two years since being a part of the aircraft recovery project that helped to lift the damaged Miracle on the Hudson plane from the Hudson River in New York City.
J. Supor & Son Trucking & Rigging Co. led the recovery with Weeks Marine Inc., of Cranford, New Jersey. According to Joseph Supor III, President, the two companies were chosen in part because of their plan to lift the aircraft intact as opposed to disassembling the plane before removing it from the water.
Supor reports the recovery mission involved 22 hours of round-the-clock work which revolved around a rigging plan that used a mechanical winch to rotate and dislodge the aircraft in order for it to be lifted in one piece. The project required the use of a 500-ton Clyde model 52 crane as well as a 115-ton Dravo model 37 marine crane.
Once the plane was loaded onto a 250 foot long by 75 foot wide barge, it was transported to Weeks’ marine yard in Jersey City, NJ. From there, the wings were removed and the tail section was cut down so that Supor could move the plane to safe storage for further study by investigators.
“We were honored to be part of this very important recovery project,” Supor says. “With our role in the Miracle on the Hudson recovery, our company has become part of American history.”
Supor emphasizes the company will continue to employ its state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to provide exceptional catastrophic recovery services.
“When it comes to aircraft recovery, every second counts,” he says. “Success comes from being able to employ the right tactics and equipment for each particular situation.”
